NZ’s Forest of Hope – a positive start to 2021

by Danielle· January 02, 2021· in The Good Review· 0 comments tags: 2020 Pandemic, 2021, COVID19 Pandemic, Forest of Hope, Positive Mindset, Tourism New Zealand, Trees That Count
Tourism New Zealand has invited people from across the globe to share their misfortunes and disappointments of 2020 online, a digital version of scribbling it on a piece of paper and incinerating it. For every disappointment shared, people are invited to put a positive spin on their situation by donating a tree in the Forest of Hope. These forests of native trees will represent hope and regrowth for the new year ahead, turning disappointments into hope, and chucking in a good dose of positivity.

Reads That Are Good For Your Mental Health

by Danielle· September 02, 2019· in The Good Review, Well-Being· 0 comments tags: A Bit Mental, Buddhist Bootcamp, Jimi Hunt, Live More Awesome, Timber Hawkeye
It always seems like a good book is hard to find when you need it most… so below are two recommended reads.   Buddhist Boot Camp By Timber Hawkeye Given to me by a friends on a similar journey this book is now my handbook. Open any page on any given day and read for just a few minutes for non-sectarian approach to being at peace with the world. Timber Hawkeye is a real person who once upon a time was also on a journey, in this book he shares his experiences without preaching.  I guess the beauty of this book is that it is easy to read, easy to understand, the chapters are small and you can read them in absolutely any order and it’s all highly relatable. You don’t need to be a buddhist to find the teachings motivational, it’s all about training your mind and boot camp is the ideal method for those of us who are time poor or with limited attention spans  As the Dalai Lama says, “Don’t try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are.” Buddhism isn’t just about meditating, it’s about being […]

How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are

by Danielle· July 01, 2019· in The Good Review· 0 comments tags: How To Be Parisian, Parisian Style
If you've travelled through Europe, the flawless class and natural style of French women won't have escaped your notice. I remember being amazed at how well put together and casually cool they all seemed, I wondered at the time if it was something they were born with or if it's something taught in French schools....

Pure Health Delivered (PHD) Juice Cleanse

by Danielle· January 01, 2018· in The Good Review· 0 comments
I’m not normally a cleanse, detox kinda gal… I’ve attempted it once before, and failed miserably, although that time required meal planning and pill taking both of which I was fairly rubbish at. The Pure Health Delivered (PHD) Juice Cleanse was easy, so easy in the fact it was just a list of juices and some suggested times. There was no arduous expedition to the grocery shop, or hours of meal planning, only to end up with bland food. The juices are far from bland… in fact they’re DELICIOUS and if even tasted like a treat rather than pond scum. I chose a juice cleanse, for exactly that reason… to CLEANSE, not to lose weight! I felt I needed to kick start my new healthy lifestyle by giving my digestive system a wee break and starting fresh. I’m oddly anal retentive and like to start things right, with a clean slate and at the start of the week. I opted for the 3 Day Basic Cleanse at a cost of $198 for x18 500ml juices. I know you’ve just gasped in horror, but if you calculate the cost of all the ingredients you’d need to buy to create your own […]

Humans Of New York

by Danielle· January 01, 2018· in The Good Review· 0 comments
In 2014 when I first wrote about Humans of New York, their Facebook page had just over 9 million followers, now in 2017 they have over 18 million Facebook followers AND 7.1 million followers on Instagram. Humans of New York has morphed into some kind of global movement, there are books, other versions by other people, a website and series done by the original creator in other locations. Humans of New York is a thing. I’d be surprised if you hadn’t already heard of Humans Of New York, it’s a combination of beautiful photography and brilliant storytelling. It’s one of the few blogs that has transformed into a movement, and become a personal addiction of mine. I’m totally engrossed in the site and it’s various social media posts, it’s focus on people is truly heart warming and it’s a brilliant motivator behind seeing people for more than they appear. It’s a positive reminder that everybody has their own story, their own battle and their own stuff going on. What’s great about this blog is that it’s evolved but the original idea hasn’t been watered down, to date Humans Of New York has featured a series of posts from over 20 […]

The Pop Up Globe

by Danielle· August 04, 2016· in The Good Review· 0 comments
I’ve not yet been to the Globe Theatre London, but that’s okay…having seen Shakespeare’s Globe in London isn’t a prerequisite for enjoying the Pop Up Globe in Auckland. In fact there’s little in the way of pre-viewing homework, hell you don’t even need to know the famous stories. After a popular first season set up in a carpark near Auckland Town Hall, the Pop Up Globe returned for a second season on the ground of Ellerslie Race Course AND a short season in Melbourne. Four hundred years dead is a strange anniversary to mark, but the 2016 launch of the Pop Up Globe marked just that, the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare and what better way to celebrate one of the worlds most famous writers, than with a pop-up, full scale, working replica of the Globe Theatre, and two seasons of Bill Shakespeare’s best known works. I’m crossing my fingers for a 2018 season, and contemplating a trip to Melbourne to see it all one more time. The mark of a truly brilliant Shakespearian performance is whether it can engage an audience that don’t quite speak the language and aren’t familiar with the often told and well-known […]
